A great read .......

For those of you who have read "The God Delusion", you will recall that Richard Dawkins dedicated the book to the memory of the late Douglas Adams (best known as the author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy). While I was away on my recent vacation, I had the pleasure of reading Adams' The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul. You have to love a book that starts out with the following sentence: It can hardly be a coincidence that no language on earth has ever produced the expression "As pretty as an airport".

I won't give away the plot here but the story involves Norse gods living in contemporary England. "Immortals was what you wanted, and immortals was what you got", complains one of the gods. So, what would you do if you were an immortal, omnipotent being whom no-one believes in anymore? Adams provides the hilarious answer in this light read that I bet you won't be able to put down. Check it out and I bet you'll be glad you did.

  1. Hi

My name is David Staume. I’m a philosophy student studying at London University, and webmaster of The Atheist Directory (www.atheistdirectory.net) and Modern Philosophy (www.modernphilosophy.com).

I found your site as I keep up to date with atheist sites and organization so I can keep the directory up to date.

I’m an atheist who also believes in the possibility of an afterlife – an interesting position some may say. My afterlife position is based on reason, I believe I have a robust argument, and it is outlined very briefly at http://www.modernphilosophy.com/philosophy/geometry.html.

I’m writing for the following reason: if the argument interests you I’d like to send you a copy of ‘The Atheist Afterlife’ (The odds of an Afterlife: Reasonable. The odds of meeting God there: Nil) which comes on Amazon.com in a few weeks. No strings attached. If you enjoy it you can review it – or not, and if you think it’s a heap of crap you can savage it online – or not. Well, there’s one condition, if you savage the argument you have to supply reasons. I also believe that the book is an important atheist work as, for example, it provides an explanation for how a person can have what appears to be a very real and intimate relationship with a completely imaginary being (God).

If the offer interests you, let me know, there’s a contact page on both sites. If it doesn’t, no excuse is required – I do not expect everybody to be interested in the particular things that interest me.

    Regards

    David

PS: I’m adding your site to The Atheist Directory but looking at your site there’s not an obvious logo. Suggestions? If you can tell me the font you use for ‘The Atheist Missionary’ I’ll create one.
