Humble beginnings .... Just be good for goodness' sake

I have been working night and day over the past couple of days. As a litigation lawyer, I have to learn to say "no" more often. At the same time, I feel fortunate (and I am fortunate) to have so many people willing to pay the outrageous rates that I am able to command for my time.

In any event, tonight was special because I received my first donation through PayPal towards the charity which I have designated for the first Atheist Missionary donation - The Smile Train which will fund a cleft palate surgery for a child living in the Third World. Never has $5 meant so much to me. In fact, in order to accelerate attaining the first goal, I will now be donating $20 for every $5 that is donated towards the first effort (i.e. each $5 becomes $25 so we only need 9 more $5 donations). This should appeal to theists who can literally take $20 out of my pocket every time they donate five bucks.

In order to maintain transparency, I will be posting the names of everyone who made a donation when the goal is reached unless you request anonymity. I will also be posting the full details of the charitable donation, including a scanned copy of the receipt from the Smile Train. In order to make sure that I derive no personal benefit from the donation, I plan to make the donation in honour of Princeton philosopher Peter Singer. I will choose a different dedicatee each time a new charitable goal is set and, of course, I am always open to suggestions in that regard.
