I would have chosen suffocation over the Bible verses

This is an excerpt from February 17, 2009 edition of The Detroit News:

Police: Kidnapped woman forced to wear diaper, hear Bible verses

DETROIT -- What started as a ride turned into a harrowing three-day ordeal for a 22-year-old Detroit woman who allegedly was held captive in a Toledo apartment by an acquaintance who handcuffed her, dressed her in a diaper, and read Bible passages to her.

Police say 34-year-old Troy Brisport of Toledo picked up Shykea Boykin about midnight Wednesday in Detroit, after she told him she didn't have a place to stay.

"He drove her to Toledo," said Minnie Boykin, the alleged victim's grandmother. "She fell asleep in his car and when she woke up she was in his apartment, handcuffed. Then he put her in a diaper and did all sort of crazy stuff."

Police say Brisport tried to suffocate Boykin in between reading aloud Bible verses.

Minnie Boykin said her granddaughter was able to escape after Brisport fell asleep.

"I don't know if he had the key (to the handcuffs) on him or what, but she got away," she said.
Police found her in the apartment parking lot wearing only a T-shirt and diaper.

Brisport was charged with kidnapping and felonious assault. He was arraigned Tuesday and is being held on $400,000 bond.

"She said she knew this guy from somewhere," Minnie Boykin said. "I told that girl not to get into cars with people."

Police said Boykin was not sexually assaulted. Investigators were unsure of Brisport's motive, although they said he may have committed similar crimes before.
