Thank-you to the recent generous donors towards our second charitable goal - a $500 donation to the Worldwide Fistula Fund. We have already reached 20% of our goal.I know that all the religiots who happen upon this blog would love to cause some pain to a rabid atheist like me. So, please hit me where it really hurts - my wallet! I match all donations dollar for dollar.
I remind you that all donors' names will be posted when we reach our goal unless you request anonymity. I also post the receipt so everyone will have proof that the money has been spent and that they are not being scammed.
The first charitable donation we made ($250 US to The Smile Train on March 17, 2009) was donated in honour of Princeton philosopher and third world relief activist Peter Singer. We pick an honouree for two reasons: 1. I do not want to receive a tax receipt for money donated by others; and 2. It's a neat way to acknowledge the efforts of those who advocate the cause of secular humanism. We are currently accepting nominations for the person to honour with our second donation. If you nominate someone, please explain why you feel they are worthy.
I should add that I do not want this effort to dissuade people from donating directly to the WFF. If you have some serious cash to donate, that is exactly what you should do. However, if you would like to make a modest donation towards our $250 goal (i.e. which I will match to make the $500), we welcome your help.

How about the late Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti?

The above link gives some information about Dr. Kuti. He is not very well known in the Western World, however, among Africans (who suffer disproportionately from the ravages that the WFF is working to alleviate) he was a pioneer and a leader in the humanitarian movement among atheists.
