The Atheist Missionary is still for sale ....

Here is another reminder that there are people for whom dollars are like sand in my kids' sandbox. I present Andreas Gursky's photographic image 99 Cent, Diptych which sold at Sotheby's, London in 2007 for $3,300,000 U.S.

... and to think that my entire atheist ministry could be had for the bargain basement price of $666,000 U.S.: http://www.atheistmissionary.com/2009/04/everyone-has-their-price.html Just think of the publicity that purchase would bring to your gambling website, porn site, search engine or, Thor forbid, your chosen flavour of religion ....

  1. I was looking around and couldn't find the list of atheists who have been eager to give their money to the needy. What's it called? Where is it located?

  2. Makarios, it's called the secular humanist movement. It includes all those for whom conviction in reason is their faith. It includes all those who understand that the reason why we prefer to good is innate, an evolved sense of decency that admittedly varies remarkably throughout humanity.

I don't know why I like giving to charity. I don't know why I like to leave a tip for the chambermaid when I know I will never meet her or return to the hotel. I don't know why I prefer watching brilliant sunsets to cruelty in its natural form. I don't know why I don't lie, cheat or steal when there is no conceivable way that I will get caught - I just choose not to. All I know is that none of this has anything to do with your God because I believe his/her/its existence is exceedingly improbable.

  3. Hey Makarios - it's called the Fortune 500.

I DO know why I get shivers when I hear a husband read a victim impact statement after his wife got killed by a drunk driver who stole a wife, mother and friend from this world; and the drunk driver comes and says he's found God and all is well because the husband will meet his wife again in heaven. Because it's a cop-out of the highest order (no pun intended).
