When your number is up, your number is up ...

Rick Warren tells us that God chooses the "exact time of your birth and death". I guess he gets pissed off when someone tries to cheat the Grim Reaper: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article6479203.ece

When did god choose the birth day of my kids? Before I met my wife? When we were dating? After we got married?

How come my wife and I lost two kids in miscarriages between our two healthy kids? The time for the babies was 3 months and 5 month into pregnancy? Was that chosen by god? Did god choose my wife and I were to have two kids and no four? My little boy has allergies, was that part of god’s plan as well? My older daughter is the healthiest kid ever. Rick, how was god involved in all this? For the record: my wife and I are very healthy.

Rick, my grandmother is dying, she’s been very ill for almost 3 years now. Her legs were amputated; one arm might need to be amputated. It’s been very painful and very hard on her and on all the family, mostly my mother. Grandma has been in and out of intensive care in the past 6 months. Last month has been the worse, doctors don’t give any hope, and there is nothing they can do.

Rick, hasn’t god chosen her time yet? Does god choese the way we die? How come some people die under horrible circumstances?

For the record: My grandmother is the best woman ever, the best mother and wife. She was a believer in Rick’s god. She was never angry; she was only love and smiles. She fed the poor several times in her home, I know because I am her older grandson.

    Regards,

    Brian

  2. Dear Brian, I cannot imagine the pain your family and especially your grandmother is going through. But your grandmother will probably know that life is all different to a walk in the park. Sin unfortunately has corrupted so much of God´s perfect plan for us. But her suffering will soon be over and she will start a great new episode without any suffering. The biggest joy you could give her right now is to tell her, that you will join her there when your time has come.

  3. Rick would say that was not cheating the Grim Reaper; that God planned the escape from the jaws of death to live another day. Rather morbid (near morbid to be exact) entertainment.

  4. da - I think you missed his point.

Why did your god choose for all this suffering to happen when it was within his power (being omnipotent and all) to cause this suffering not to happen, with no other side-effects?

It speaks to me greatly of this god's character that he chooses evil and suffering as a means of demonstrating his power.
