Animal Liberator on Michael Vick

This is Peter Singer's take on the Michael Vick situation. This should not surprise anyone familiar with Singer's work: http://www.philly.com/inquirer/columnists/daniel_rubin/20090817_Daniel_Rubin__An_animal-rights_activist_stands_up_for_Vick.html

  1. I am SO SICK AND TIRED (my name is not Jordan) of the bashing of Michael Vick. The guy committed a crime. A bad crime. He was sentenced in a Court of law. He served that sentence. He deserves to play professional football. His interview on 60 minutes was genuine.

The Commissioner of the NFL is not a moral saint. He is the Commissioner - his duties include penalizing players for violating league policies, usually the player code of conduct or the substance abuse policy. There are players right now in the NFL who have violated either or both policy several times. Gimme a break. This is a no-brainer.

For those who say "I don't want him playing for MY team because he will tarnish our moral reputation", you're a complete idiot. There is no moral reputation to uphold - it is a sport for crying out loud. As Head Coach Herman Edwards said to reporters after losing a game, "you play to win the game", period (cheating aside, Pats fans).

Okay, I think I just had a minor stroke. Until next time amigos...

  3. Perhaps it's because I'm not a football fan but I don't see the big deal? Yes, what he did was terrible but what does it have to do with football? I have a friend who is so upset over it she nearly cries when the topic comes up. She truly wants to see him die.
