Lately I have been receiving more email from college students. I get the sense that atheism is a much more popular topic on campuses than it was during my university days in the late 80's and early 90's.
A keen freshman attending college in the Bible belt asked me what he could do to become more involved in promoting atheism and secular humanism. Here is my response:
To be honest, if I were you right now, most of my immediate plans would involve young co-eds.
Seriously, my advice is for you to enjoy yourself and learn as much as you can. It might be hard to find atheist groups on a campus in the Bible belt.
I don't know what program you are in but I highly recommend that you take some philosophy courses. Great stuff and one of my few regrets from university is not studying that subject.
Good luck with your studies and keep an open mind. Perhaps a voluptuous bible thumper might be able to convert you to her way of thinking.
Best regards,
TAM

I am from Greece, born as an Atheist and raised as one. My mother and father were Christians, like our customs are, but they never believe in it, because they were forced to believe and they had no choice about it.
ReplyDeleteCristian religion, was one of the biggest enemy in my country, in the early years of Christianity, because our people believed in 12 gods and we were idolaters, us Greeks. At the 4th AC the great Konstantin, the emperor of Roman, who lived in the Roman Empire in the Greek region of the empire, he made this religion official, and died after christening him self for the sake of the power the Christians had over the army and politics, but he become hated of the idolaters. The first steps for the people to become Christians, was because of hunger. The second step that allowed Christianity to preserve the power, was the move in of the emperor Konstantin. After that the churches of various regions began a war for the things that ~Christ said. In the years that follow Roman empire split to half, the Orthodoxies and the Catholics. The both of the believe that what they say is truth. Most customs of Christianity, come from the ancient religion of idolaters, at my country.
The element of absolute villain that fights absolute good, is an element that Jews took from Persians when they were under they're sovereignty. Greeks didn't believe that the live can be absolute good nor absolute evil.
If you like to learn about Atheism, just read a lot and prefer book about History, because it's dangerous to read philosophy without knowing the history of this planet. In the roads of philosophy, you can be easily lost and go back to the start point of religion. The most philosophical theories, follow the religion and her teachings that emanate from the Philosopher Aristotle, schoolteacher of Alexander the Great, and Aristotle was in his beliefs imperial, and thats the opposite of democracy.
If you want me, i can provide you some elements for Atheism..
Thanks for your time
