The one verse in the Bible that best sums up Christianity

Who could ask for a better authority than Saint Paul?

1 Corinthians 15:14 (NIV)

And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.

Good thing Christ lives or Christians would be doomed.

Why does everything have to end with "or else you'll be doomed" with christians?

Control through fear, perhaps? It's very effective; I have to do this to my dogs sometimes.

Christ "Lives"? Let's check our definitions.. No, he doesn't.
You're hijacking terminology.

Religions do this all the time. At its worst, it is subversion to irrationality in the guise of philosophy, and disingenuous at best.

Christ lives? When's the last time he gave an interview on TV?

Christ lives in your imagination.

Sometimes I wish I lived in a bubble ...

And the passage that best incapsulates the Almighty? I like the good ole favourite, Exodus 4:24 (King James version): "And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the Lord met him, and sought to kill him". Who, you might ask, is so wicked as to attract that hatred and those homicidal tendencies in the big "L"? MOSES. Apparently, he didn't cut enough water.

v19! (KJV)

If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

It's cool that St. Paul lays out the stakes. Christians have to be pretty confident. You are invited to find out too; whenever you're ready.

(just another look at that verse 19, quandmeme)

"If we have hope in Christ for this life only and no longer, we are miserable among all men."

This was written to those who might have been doubting the resurrection. It was meant to clarify that having hope in Christ is not just to give hope to this life, but is for eternal life. So, if all we get out of hope for Christ is that we're happy for the time we're on Earth, then we're comparatively miserable.
