Pat Robertson explains why Haitians brought earthquake on themselves

Pat Robertson has done more more the cause of atheism than Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Daniel Dennett and Christopher Hitchens combined. Most Christians will want to disassociate themselves from Robertson's ramblings. However, what they ignore is the fact that smiting a "heathen" nation with an earthquake is entirely consistent with the fearsome Yahweh described in the Bible.

  1. Well...many Christians have been more than willing to follow the ramblings of Patrick for decades now. The 700 Club has run for more than 40 years. It has been aired on the ABC Family Channel. There are 700 Clubs in Asia, India and other parts of the world. There are millions of devout fans.

I cannot believe that someone would spout such vile nonsense on television immediately after a disaster of such proportions without understanding how many people have died and been made homeless by this. What a disgusting and heartless man. Where is his "Christian" charity, his forgiveness for sins past and his tolerance of others? Oh yeah, forgot, Evangelists don't actually practice Christianity only "make me richer as I make you feel guiiltier, dirtier and less worthy"

  4. Haiti is 80% Catholic and 16% Protestant, making it more Christian than, say, the United States. On what possible grounds are they "heathen"?

    What basis could cause such an assumption?

    What feature of Haitains suggests their non-Christianness?

    I have abolutely no idea.

  5. Okay, I just watched the video. Holy shit, I had no idea his hypothesis was that crazy. I wonder, can I curse my grandchildren, out of spite? What kind of god would honor such a curse, or allow it to be honored? Oh, that's right, "His blood be on us, and on our children." Sick, sick.

    I love the restraint of the woman listening to him, and when she starts to nod repeatedly, as though to say "Yes, Pat, the Dominican Republic is next to Haiti. This is true, unlike the long string of bullshit you prefaced it with. There's hope for you yet."

    Of course, for any omnimax theist, the only alternative to Pat's vengeful god is a passive one. I can't imagine the kind of agonizing people have to go through to reconcile the whole thing.

  7. Ya, I said that video before, and I enjoyed your amusing commentary on it. Pat Robertson may have truly done more for the force of atheism then christianity . Anyways, I have similar interests to you, although my writing is not as articulate and precise as yours since I am only 13 years old. However, I do have a sight comitted to discussing issues similar to religion and other philosophical issues.

  8. Tam- I am currently in school, an coincidentally one of my current classes is Humanities, Religions of the world. My professor just posted this video for discussion. Here's what he posted to get the class thinking:

    "According to Rev. Pat Robertson, the Haiti tragedy also has divine implications simply because the Haitian people allegedly "made a pact with the devil" (see the link below for specifics). I think that Indigenous cultures sought to make sense out of things they couldn't understand, and often that meant pointing to an unseen reality that was greater than themselves. Likewise, I think the people (even today) still point to the divine during times that boggle the mind. And often times, in our effort to make sense of that which defies explanation, we come to woefully wrong conclusions. Can you see where this is true?"

    But stay tuned, and I will post what my classmates think (which one other student and I are the only ones who aren't Christians).

  9. What a stupid f*king cretard. The reason why Haiti is in such a bad state compared to the Dominican Republic (beautiful country, by the way!) is because of a combination of factors; geographic features that make the ecology of that side of the island much more fragile (less rainfall, among others); and also intense exploitation of natural resources (higher population density, more aggressive agricultural practices, more deforestation), versus a more resilient ecology and a lower population density on the other side of the island.

    Another factor was their colonial past. The French had a habit of conquering land for the express purpose of exploiting resources, instead of simply colonizing. It's an environmental disaster, and non-existent gods and devils had absof*ckinglutely nothing to do with it.

    That's according to my favorite author, Jared Diamond, who is a billion times more correct than Pat F*ckbertson on the topic.
