    Went through a divorce some years ago & my solicitor did a better job without needing a video. The hierarchy that is the law industry is often another example.

    quedula, not certain if that person is really upset, or just spamming another combox. Similar non-specific "comments" are posted elsewhere.

    My own comment: The things UCC is 'selling' may be worse than nothing. From their website, they seem to believe that the 21st century American political left exemplifies Jesus' teaching, and to the extent they mislead us about moral behavior, they deserve all the scorn they get.

    This is not in the ad and I don't want drag us too far off-topic, but taking innocent human life is wrong, and the UCC's insistence to the contrary is simply bizarre to me.

  4. Jonathan, religion and divorce litigation are both often governed by irrationality. Divorce lawyers have a reputation for ratcheting up the conflict but what you need to keep in mind is that the clients are often already at war. In my own practice, I always try to settle on reasonable terms ("reasonable" being defined by Court precedent) and only take a matter to trial if it can't be settled. Out of hundreds of cases, only a handful have gone to trial. I charge ridiculous sums for my time and, when it comes to divorce cases, I earn every cent. The cases are particularly gut wrenching when two otherwise capable parents start throwing mud at each other in an effort to get a leg up on custody - I try to avoid those cases like the plague.

    A word to the wise - hire a very busy lawyer. They will be motivated to settle your case.

    Spambot, I take from your comment that you believe that abortion amounts to the taking innocent human life. I'm not sure if you are familiar with the writings of philosopher Peter Singer but he has challenged the premise that it is wrong to take innocent human life. If you check out Singer's biography on Wikipedia, there is a brief (but useful) summary of his thinking on this topic.

    I am probably more than half way through my lifetime and I'm still not sure where I stand on the issue of abortion. However, in the absence of religious dogma, I fail to understand why a fetus at the moment of conception should be accorded any more moral consideration than the ovum and/or sperm immediately prior to conception. Maybe you can help me out with this.

  7. Re: the biological differences between an embryo and ovum and/or sperm immediately prior to conception, I suspect the best that I can do is point you and others to good resources on the subject, such as these:

    Looking down the list, I see that almost all of these sites are pushing an agenda that you likely do not want to be part of, but that need not deter us. I simply recommend taking the purported facts from those sites to a resource you trust and see if they stand up. If the facts check out, you can likely take some of the conclusions drawn from those facts seriously.
