I'm a curmudgeon!

I disagree with just about everything Christian philosopher/theologian Douglas Groothuis has ever written or said.  However, he recently posted instructions on his website The Constructive Curmudgeon on "How to be a Curmudgeon".

  1. Care about truth.
  2. Care about grammar.
  3. Care about eloquence in speaking.
  4. Develop refined tastes in everything you can
  5. Develop masterful BS detector.
  6. Speak truths that no one else will, but which need to be heard.
  7. Never flatter.
  8. Don't sell character for success.
  9. Be skeptical of whatever "the herd" likes.
  10. Do not watch TV. In fact, turn them off whenever possible.
  11. Lament stupidity inanity, and insanity. They are everywhere

I can't disagree with any of this.  I'm proud to call myself a curmudgeon.

I'd like to have a beer with Professor Groothuis sometime ...

    I guess he's still working on #5.

  2. I would not want to be taken as suggesting that Groothuis exemplifies the virtues he espouses.
